7 Rules of Gym Etiquette You Should Be Follow
Have you ever sat down or went to lie on a bench and you felt the sweat of the person that was there before you? Don’t be that person. It doesn’t take much to go grab a paper towel and some of the disinfectant spray that the gym provides so that you can clean up your sweat.
Working in
For many of the first time gym members it can be quite intimidating walking into a gym for the first time and not knowing anyone. Don’t be the person in the gym who scares people away for pleasure. When the gym is busy, let that person that needs the same machine as you work-in. While you are taking your break the other person can be doing their set. It is as simple as that.
Always Re-rack
Every now and then you will see those few select people that like to get weights out, whether it be free weights or dumbbells, and not properly put the weights back. There is nothing more annoying in a gym than when you go to get dumbbells and they aren’t there. Instead they are halfway across the gym not even being used, they are just sitting there in the middle of the floor and in the way.
Space invaders
There are several types of ‘space invaders’. Every gym has that one person that loves to come up and chit chat with you in the middle of your workout. In these situations the best way to get out of these situations is to just nod and smile at them and hope that they get bored and leave.
No one wants to be stopped in the middle of their workout and then have to restart the workout after calling off. Another type of ‘space invader’ is that person who leaves their personal supplies or belongings all over the gym. Don’t be that person who takes up multiple stations at one time. Keep all of your stuff together and move through the gym one station at a time.
Public gyms are for general public. It isn’t a personal area for you to decide you want to take your shirt off and start flexing your muscles in the mirror. Other people like to come to the gym to workout and do some cardio, not to feel inferior and want to leave.
Gym etiquette is just courtesy to the people around you. Use common sense while in the gym and you will be just fine.
